Tips on Making Money on Ebay, not Losing it
Tips on Making Money on eBay, Not Losing It
Are you interested in becoming an eBay seller or are you a relatively new eBay seller? If so, you may still be learning the ins and outs of eBay. Selling on eBay is a great way to make money on the side or even enough to support yourself, but you have to be successful at what you do. Unfortunately, it can take time to fully learn the ins and outs of eBay, particularly how to become a profitable eBay seller, until now. Below some helpful tips are outlined; tips that you won’t necessarily find explained on eBay.
eBay sellers are all required to pay fees to list their items for sale on eBay. You are charged two separate fees, a listing fee or insertion fee and a final value fee. For the final value fee, you are charged a percentage of the price that your item sold for. The insertion fee or listing fee is figured out a little bit differently. Instead of being charged a percentage, you are charged a set amount. For instance, at the current moment, it costs .20 to list an item up to .99 cents and .40 to list an item for sale between $1.00 and $9.99, and the fee scale continues up in a similar fashion. Please remember that this is just a sample. eBay regularly changes their fees; therefore, you are urged not to rely on the aforementioned fee samples.
Although eBay sellers must pay the eBay fees mentioned above, many do not take the time to thoroughly understand those fees. You are advised against doing that, as it may end up costing you money. For instance, many of the price ranges for eBay’s insertion fee scale ends at .99 cents. For you, this is a great opportunity to save money, but you must know how to do so. As stated above, if you list one of your items at $9.99, the sample insertion fee would be only .40 cents. Did you know that if you listed your item for $10.00, your insertion fee could jump up to around .60 cents! An extra .20 cents just for a penny is pretty expensive, especially if you list a number of eBay auctions that way. Before listing items for sale on eBay again, examine eBay insertion fee sale and see how you can easily save money, sometimes by just shaving a few cents off your asking price.
It has often been said that to be a successful eBay seller, you need to have good product descriptions and clear digital pictures of the item or items that you are selling. Of course, having a number of pictures in your eBay listings is a great way to increase your chances of making a sale, but it can be expensive doing so. eBay allows sellers to post one picture for free. Additional pictures can be purchased for a small fee, but that small fee can add up overtime. For that reason, many eBay sellers limit the number of pictures they put in their auctions; however, you do not want to do this. Instead, you will want to examine photo sharing sites. Photo sharing websites, like PhotoBucket are a nice, fee way to add more pictures to your eBay auctions. Register with a photo sharing site, like PhotoBucket, follow the instructions and you should be saving money in no time at all.
The above mentioned ways are just a few of the many ways that you can save money on eBay, not lose it. In all honesty, you should do a little bit of research first. Using the internet is a great way to research selling on eBay, as many other eBay users will share their money making secrets with you, free of charge.

it depends what your selling really, my bf has made about £300 on there just selling his old dvds etc, but perhaps a higher starting price would be betetr, try one higher and if no one buys it lower it abit, so on and so forth until you find a price people are willing to pay for things
research is the best option tho, see what everyone else is pricing the same goods at and try and undercut them alittle bit, see if that works
also job lots of things may get you better results

First, if your feedback is low it will effect your sales. If it is low, try buying a few things to help build it up. When you set your starting price, make sure it is the minimum you will take. Don’t underestimate your shipping costs, make sure you are considering the cost of packaging materials and time it takes to go to the PO. Describe your item in great detail, don’t leave anything out. If your just starting out, start out with your cheapest items first. This way you will build up your feedback and can start selling higher dollar items. Just be honest!
Always add delivery confirmation, this will save you from the morons who want something for nothing. If you don’t add the confirmation, there will be some idiot that is going to claim he didn’t get his item and eBay will take your money and pay them back. I learned this the hard way, it was my $100 mistake.
Good Luck!

It’s hard to make money on eBay because eBay charges so many fees (listing fees and commissions).

First off, up the shipping charges. When I first starting selling on ebay I would lose money on shipping. You hafta charge more so you don’t lose anything. And remember, shipping and handling charges include the box and packing materials!
Second, set a minimum price. You may not sell everything you have auctioned, but you won’t lose money selling something that cost $5 for only $1. Either that or start the bidding at the cost of the product.
Third, sell things that don’t cost you much. I used to buy things from goodwill for $1 (tuesdays anything with a certain color label is only $1 no matter what it is, a stereo, an xbox game, pants… anything!) and I would sell them on ebay for a large profit. Check out the thrift stores in your town and the garage sales. Find good deals and sales and sell them on ebay.
Fouth, have a good item description. I always typed up good info, added pictures, and included the reason I was selling the product. I never lied, but I would never say I got something for a buck at goodwill and I was trying to make some money. I would say things like "I bought this 360 game and I don’t want it anymore" or "this charger worn’t work with my phone so I don’t need it.
I think that’s all the tips I can give ya, at least it’s all I can think of right now. Have fun and make lots of money!

Just asked my wife who has made enough money on ebay to make a difference in our lives. Look at the sale price of similar items before you list it. If there is no money in it do not list it. The rest I don’t want to tell you because I will miss my favorite answers person while she is on Ebay, but here goes. She studies what does sell, so that she can buy it later. She also takes a cell phone to rummage sales and finds stuff brand new at stores, and has a girlfriend check the prices over the phone. Cutemum3 could handle that. On one occasion she found a toy that was selling for 200 on ebay that was 20 at the store. She managed to buy 10.
Good luck Rockmum
Oh and she puts things on buy it now for about 10% more than the normal selling price. She starts bidding at a price about 10% below selling price.

I had the same thing happen to me…. you can set it up so that e-bay figures out the postage so that you are not stuck not charging enough for postage…. you can also set up the lowest your will take for an item but you have to pay money if it does not sell…..
PS it has been a while since I tried to sell anything on e-bay…..
